Morritt Arms Hotel – anno 1635 – UK

The English Guest house located in the North of England had a large void above the fire opening which was unable to be cleaned. This created repetitive chimney fires. The fire brigade instructed that the chimney must be lined before the fire was used. The use of a steel liner was rejected due to impractical installation, the use of cast in situ was also rejected as the installer was unable to open the chimney due to the hand painted murals to the bar area and decoration to the hotel rooms above.

The fireplace in the Charles Dickens bar is a Georgian hob grate type. The property dates back to 1635. Therefore because of the risk to the historic building and the antiques within the decision was taken to use FuranFlex25. This was because it was so much cleaner in installation terms than other products on the market. The Chimney was 10.5 metres long, one 30 degree offset above fire opening. Large void to base of chimney and remaining chimney 225mm to 275mm square.

FuranFlex25 was the most suitable system maintaining the required cross sectional area of 225mm and no requirement for opening up the chimney above the fireplace. The bar area was closed during the day by 3.30pm the installation was complete. The bar opened for evening trade. Kompozit’all UK installation partner Specialist Chimney Services were asked to price for works to an additional six chimney/fireplace installations within the property.
